About Yarn Zone

About Us

Our yarns are naturally dyed from local produce. Each week, we purchase beets, carrots , cabbage, and other produce, spices, and even wood, from local farms to brew in our dye pots. Seasonally, we’ll even see different qualities in the color. Our wood dyed yarn is particularly vibrant this season.

This produce is typically simmered for hours to achieve the rich colors we love. To mordant the dye, or make it stick to the yarn, we use a simple potassium alum. This mordant has been used  historically and continues to be our choice today.  Did you know that a form of it is often used as a natural deodorant even?

All of the wool is corriedale, also a local commodity. Uruguay is one of the largest wool producing countries. It doesn’t get as much publicity as the Merinos from Australia, but it is fast becoming a leader in fine wools. This corriedale is an impressive wool that is soft, lofty, and well priced for hand knitting. Our yarns are all hand spun by local artisans whom we are honored to work with and support. On occasion, you will find extraordinary hand spun natural brown wools among our offering too.

When your purchase from the YarnZone Naturally dyed collection, you get a truly unique yarn that is all natural and all hand made. If you are going green…go naturally green with these fine artisan yarns from Uruguay.

So please, join me on this adventure and make www.YarnZone.com your favorite place to shop on the Internet.

We value your business.
